Baobab & Blueberry Smoothie - Recipe

Baobab is ‘The Feel Good Fruit’. Baobab has one of the highest antioxidant levels in the world, and the highest among all its fruity friends. Antioxidants are incredibly anti-inflammatory and fight disease inducing free radicals in our body. Meaning they're incredibly anti cancerous! Combined with the added benefits of blueberries, you’ve got yourself a nutrient packed treat!

Aduna Baobab Superfruit Powder is a 100% natural, nutrient-dense, raw wholefood. It is also almost 50% fibre and a rich source of vitamin C, calcium, potassium and thiamin. There is no such thing as a baobab plantation; every tree is community-owned and wild harvested.

This recipe by Saskia Gregson-Williams (Naturally Sassy) shared with us via Aduna’s blog is the easy and tasty way to incorporate baobab into your diet. Blueberries are one of her favourite fruits and go incredibly well with baobab.

Ingredients:
1 tsp Aduna Baobab Superfruit Powder
1 banana
1 cup blueberries
2 medjool dates
1 cup almond milk
Method: Just blend!

Wild Nutrition - Behind the Brand

Wild Nutrition is a food supplement range changing the face of vitamins. Founded by husband and wife team, Charlie and Henrietta Norton, this Food-State range offers the highest quality supplements available today. Here we catch up with expert Nutritional Therapist, Henrietta.

How did you choose the name ‘Wild Nutrition’? It was a very organic process really. We wanted something that would be reflective of the natural ingredients inside the products and we were sitting around the kitchen table with our family and someone just shouted out ‘Wild Health’ which we immediately turned into Wild Nutrition. It was a light bulb moment and we’ve never looked back.

Henrietta, what first attracted you to working in the nutrition industry? I had been interested in health and medicine since I was young. I have always viewed the body as a ‘whole’, interested in the person behind the disease rather than the disease itself and so studying conventional medicine as a degree didn’t quite connect with me. However once I had finished at university, I started to explore my options. I saw a nutritionist myself for advice on my own wellbeing and then it clicked that this was where I needed to begin. So I went back to college to train as a Nutritional Therapist for 3 years.

What do you wish you’d known when you started? Nothing actually. I have learnt so much and I am so very grateful for everything that I have learnt and achieved along the way. I wouldn’t change a thing.

What’s a typical day like? It is extremely varied but always starts with a bang as we have 3 young boys to feed, dress and get off to school by 8.30am. Once we have said good-bye to these 3 amigos, work begins. This can either be getting the train to London for a day of clinic or meetings, or it could be in the office researching for product formulations or my book. At the end of each day, we come home to share supper with the boys and slow down for an evening of restoration!

What’s next for Wild Nutrition? This next year is a very exciting one for us and will see a rapid expansion of Wild Nutrition. Our wonderful team is growing and we will be introducing many new and very exciting products including more products for Men and a Sports Range.

If you would treat yourself to one thing this month it would be… A day on the Sussex coast in the spring sunshine, with our children, followed by a massage. Heaven!

What makes someone stand out? Ooh this is hard as often it’s not quantifiable, it’s simply an energetic connection but I suppose it would have to be someone who is being true to themselves. I think you can often sense this before you even talk to them.

Favourite time of the day. If it is summer or spring, it would have to be first thing in the morning or at dusk. If it is winter it would have to be teatime when it is getting dark and the fire is lit.

What’s your favourite comfort food? Chicken, spring greens and noodle broth with a good old squeeze of lime. No question, I adore it!

Find the Best Exfoliator for Your Skin Type

Looking for a good facial scrub that can help you reveal the inner beauty of your skin?  Our editor’s list will help find your perfect match.
Exfoliators can work wonders for your complexion, unclogging pores, minimizing the signs of aging and brightening skin. Using the wrong formula, however, can leave your skin feeling sorry for itself. Like with any facial treatment, effective exfoliation lies in finding the right product targeted for your skin type. Here's what to use:

If your skin is: Dry and Dull
Use: Oskia Micro Exfoliating Balm. When dry, dead cells build up on the skin’s surface, your complexion simply can shine. Brighten things up with this organic balm formula, which gently sloughs away dead cells with exfoliating silica and nourishing Rose, Lychee and Peppermint. So gentle it can be used two or three times a week, it instantly detoxes, rejuvenates skin and helps protect skin against environmental stress.

If your skin is: Sensitive
If your usual exfoliator tends to cause redness and irritation, opt for a gentle gel-like peel instead of a more traditional exfoliator. Use this mild organic formula, which breaks down dirt with fruit-derived hydroxy acids and raw sugar cane, once a week to get a softer complexion without upsetting your facial skin.

If your skin is: Showing the Signs of Aging
Use: Aurelia Probiotic Skincare Refine & Polish Miracle Balm. When it comes to aging skin, it doesn’t get much better than Aurelia Probiotic Skincare Refine & Polish Miracle Balm. This revolutionary double-action, multi-use enzyme polish works to transform and brighten dull, rough, congested and lacklustre complexions with a combination of pure BioOrganic Oils and natural rice bran; the refining beads gently dislodge dry skin cells and boost circulation to reveal bright, clear and beautiful skin.

If your skin is: Oily and Shiny
Use: Skin & Tonic Gentle Scrub. Since pores appear larger when skin is oily, use an exfoliator that will control sebum build-up on the skin’s surface like this one, made with oat, rosehip and french pink clay. Not only will it minimize the appearance of pores, using this scrub one to two times a week will help prevent breakout, too.

If your skin is: Acne-Prone
Use: Tata Harper Resurfacing Mask. When dealing with blemishes, you want to deep-cleanse pores without irritating or drying out your complexion. This 100% natural formula with pomegranate enzymes, Pink French Clay and White Willow extract deeply cleanses and exfoliates skin and helps improve its appearance by eliminating toxins and dull and blemished skin cells. Use it once a week and you’ll have clearer skin in no time.

If Your Skin Is: Combination and Sensitive
Use: Pai Skincare Kukui and Jojoba Skin Brightening Exfoliator. Prone to oil and large pores on your T-zone and dryness on your cheeks? Those of you with combination skin will rejoice for this double-duty exfoliator, which is also ideal for sensitive skin prone to acne, redness and eczema. Jojoba beads provide a natural and very gentle buffing action, while the Hawaiian Kukui Oil, a unique blend of Omega 3 & 6, nourishes and leaves skin feeling smooth and moisturized.

Aduna - Behind the brand

Aduna is an Africa-inspired health and beauty brand and social business. Aduna's products feature extraordinary and unique natural ingredients from across the continent. Here we catch up with co-founder Andrew Hunt.

Aduna means ‘life’ or ‘world’ in Wolof – what one thing can’t you live without in your daily life?
The most important thing for me by far is to wake up every morning and be inspired about what I am doing with my life. As long as I have this, then the rest slots easily into place. And thankfully with Aduna, inspiration is never in short supply.

How often do you get to go back and visit the African communities that Aduna work with?
Not enough. Ironically, since co-founding Aduna I have spent less time in Africa than ever before. However this year I have already been to Africa twice, which is amazing. When I arrive there I am often feeling like an iPhone on low battery, but after a week of being plugged back in, I come home fully charged.

Do you think that you will introduce more superfoods to your range?
Yes, in fact we have another amazing one coming in the next couple of months – African Super Cacao. This is the first cacao product with a health claim which has been proven and accepted by the European Food Safety Authority. It’s an amazing powder which is naturally high in flavanols and contributes to normal blood flow.

What do you wish you’d known when you started?
We didn’t know very much when we started – it is a massive learning curve launching your own brand. Perhaps the most useful thing would have been the names and email addresses of all the buyers.

Highlight from the last few years of your company?
We only launched two and half years ago but we already have some amazing highlights – getting into Liberty, our first piece in Vogue, being nominated for two Guardian Sustainable Business Awards. But by far the best thing about the Aduna experience so far has been the amazing people we have had the chance to meet and work with – ranging from our inspiring interns and communities in Ghana to our amazing friend and supporter Suzy Menkes, Editor of International Vogue.

What is the most challenging part of your job?
The fact that I find it almost impossible to switch off from it at any time of day or night!

What is your favourite time of the day?
Early morning before the phone starts ringing and email pinging.

Which cause would you fight for?
To Make Baobab Famous. This extraordinary African superfruit has the potential to be worth as much as a billion dollars to rural Africa, if only we can make it famous. This is a vision that inspires our whole team. And we are fighting for it every day.

Result: Clears and revitalises the complexion
This clay-based mask helps detox and restore balance. The botanical formula of grapes, pink clay and naturally exfoliating papaya enzymes draw out impurities and tighten up pores, freshening and brightening skin.
Formula: 99.3% natural
How to use: Apply a fine layer and rinse away after 10 minutes.

Result: Intensely soothes and calms skin
This mask restores moisture levels to relieve tightness, reduces redness and increases softness thanks to vinolevure and the ultra-nourishing grapeseed oil (rich in restorative omega 6). It’s an ultra creamy, soothing formula that provides deep hydration thanks to an infusion of hyaluronic acid, known for its ability to retain water and plump out the skin.
Formula: 85.5% natural
How to use: Apply in a thick layer and leave for 10 minutes before wiping away any excess.

Result: Balances and helps clear blemishes
This one is ideal for skin with acne or blemishes. It’s full of naturally purifying ingredients and two types of clay, bentonite and kaolin, which absorb excess oil, decongest and soothe your skin. It cleans deeply, diminishes the appearance of pores and removes dead skin cells. Moreover, it can be used as a night-time acne spot treatment by applying a small amount onto affected areas.
Formula: 94% natural
How to use: Apply all over if you have oily skin, just to the T-zone or as a spot treatment. Wait for 10 minutes, then rinse away.

Result: An instant boost of radiance
This peel treatment tightens pores, renews skin texture and provides an immediate radiance. This effective mask helps cellular renewal with exfoliating glycolic acid and papaya extract while Viniferine works to brighten and even out skin tone and illuminating your complexion.
Formula: 87.5% natural
How to use: Apply in a thick layer avoiding the eye area, and leave for 10 minutes. Rinse away gently.
